Diarrhea as a symptom
Diarrhea is a symptom that appears in various pathologies and is characterized by frequent and/or liquid stools, possibly associated with abdominal pain, fever or dehydration.
Sometimes severe symptoms may be manifested, including very frequent or hemorrhagic stools, high fever, obnubilation, frequent vomiting. A particular mention has to be made for several specific population groups. Diarrhea that appears in the newborn, infants, pregnant women or in elderly people with severe pathologies can be more debilitating because of the dehydration complications. This is the reason why we strongly recommend you to immediately address a physician in all the above stated situations.
Because of many different forms of diarrhea, various treatments, based on different mechanisms of action, were developed. As a general rule, medicines, rehydration and diet aim to eliminate the cause aswell as providing necessary comfort to the patient.
How does Bacid help to treat diarrhea?
Among the pharmaceutical products used for this purpose, Bacid is the active medicine that helps normalize the intestinal flora and restore the normal condition of the intestines.
Bacid acts in a natural way. Lactobacillus, the active ingredient in Bacid, is one of the saprophytic (normal) microorganisms living in the human digestive tract. These are bacteria that are normally found on the interior wall of the guts and they are necessary and helpful in the processes of digestion and absorption of food. Also their presence has a role in opposing the overgrowth of some dangerous bacteria that otherwise could generate digestive problems like life-threatening diarrheas.
Sometimes, during treatments with broad-spectrum antibiotics, the bacteria that are normally present in the intestines are destroyed because of the drugs' side effects. Then follows a decrease in the intestinal digestion and absorption of some food components, which in turn generates the diarrheal syndrome. Bacid contains a natural, selected strain of Lactobacillus rhamnosus that will colonize the intestines and therefore will restore the normal flora. It helps improve digestion and absorbtion, so that the stools become normal.
Using Bacid during antibiotic therapy can prevent post-antibiotic diarrhea. However if this is already manifested, Bacid is the oral drug of choice to treat these symptoms.
Bacid can be administered at any age, as it is naturally present in the human digestive system. For infants or patients that can not swallow the capsules, the content can be added to semi-solid food.
Important: The treatment with Bacid does not exclude a correct rehydration with hydro-electrolytes and glucose solutions. Bacid can be associated with the anti-diarrheal drugs when necessary.
Because of the specificity of each patient's situation, physician's recommendations should be given priority over the information mentioned above.
